Squeeeeeeeeee! It’s time once again for one of our favorite annual Portland shopping events, the Crafty Wonderland Super Colossal Spring Show.  This straight-up extravaganza of handmade goodies by local Portland talent will be held once again at the Oregon Convention Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 — the day before Mother’s Day, which is kinda perfect in terms of shopping for mom gifts.

Crafty Wonderland’s use of the word “colossal” is apt. There will about 225 vendors participating in this event, offering tons of unique, one-of-a-kind gifts, clothing and accessories that you seriously won’t be able to find anywhere else. We’re going to be kids in a handmade local candy store.

Because it would be ridiculous to name favorites out of such an immense list of talented Portland vendors (see the jaw-dropping Crafty Wonderland vendor list here), we’ll instead just tell you what you need to know: Admission to Crafty Wonderland is free; food and drinks are available; and the first 200 guests will receive goodie gift bags as thanks for supporting local talent. Now you’re excited, too, right?

We hope you saved some shopping strength this holiday weekend! We’re back from turkey break just in time for today’s GIVE Handmade Sale, a ginormous independent artisan market held at Northeast Portland’s Leftbank Annex from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28.

GIVE began as The Secret Society Sale five years ago, and it’s grown so much in popularity that they’re a movin’ on up to a larger space with a new mission. Organizers Michelle Gay, Julz Nally and Jen Neitzel have wrangled more than 85 of our favorite local vendors into one spectacular space, and turned the whole event into a benefit for Oregon Food Bank.

They’re calling this type of sale “crafting with a cause,” so it’s not just your best bet for finding unique, locally made holiday gifts, but also a great way to help folks in need. Ten percent of sale proceeds will go to Oregon Food Bank, and shoppers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food or to make cash donations at the event.

Shoppers are also encouraged to. . . shop! You can nab jewelry, clothing, accessories, bath and body products, chocolates and food items, cards, stationery and more more more — we really could go on for days. Like, literally.

Our preview of the event vendors turned up jewelry from 2 Monkees, like the sweet owl pendant (top), and sleek, modern styles from Allium Designs; sweet journals made from vintage book covers from Attick Journals; handmade soaps from Scrumptious Suds; gorgeous glassware from Slumptown Glass; and recycled jackets from Bella Sisters (right).

We can’t possbily list ‘em all, but you can preview all the GIVE Handmade Sale vendors here. Better yet, just scoot on over and see for yourself. The first 100 shoppers will receive goodie boxes packed with handmade goods, too, so the time to get your shop on is NOW.

Southeast Portland’s premiere vintage boutique Xtabay Vintage will host a trunk show and sale featuring Charles & Victoria by local designer Rachel Ancliffe, noon to 6 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 6.
