No one wants to be a McBride. With more than 2.5 million weddings served in the U.S. every year, it’s easy to understand why brides are taking such strides to differentiate themselves. Wedding trends for spring 2010 are more personal than ever, incorporating unique touches like vintage jewelry or handmade, one-of-a-kind gowns. Enter: The English Department.

Downtown Portland’s charming boutique and its owner Elizabeth Dye, one of the city’s most imaginative designers of original handmade bridal gowns, will present its fifth annual bridal showcase, “A Novel Romance,” a fashion show of wedding and special occasion dresses, noon on Sunday, Jan. 31 at The Cleaners at Ace Hotel in downtown Portland.

“We’re excited to show all our new dresses, as well as the work of other ferociously talented wedding vendors,” Dye said, referring to new debut collections from Jenny Yoo, Alix & KellyCoren Moore and others. Plus, the event will showcase unique bridal lingerie, flowers and accessories from local designers, and of course Dye’s own collection of romantic, handmade dresses.

Dye’s Heroines 2010 Bridal Collection is as fanciful and pretty as ever before – or maybe even more so – with elegant columns of silk shantung; frothy layers of English tulle, Chantilly and Alençon lace; and embellishments of hand-stitched pearls and organza flowers. Several of Dye’s designs also feature a higher hemline, which is right on-trend for bridal bliss in 2010.

That dress up top is so cute!!! For my wedding though, I’d want something a little sexier and not so cutesy ;)

Bah! I want to get over all things wedding related after my stint in the wedding industry but I CAN’T when I see all of the amazing things The English Dept puts out…I wish I could quit you, wedding monster.
