Just as fashion magazines double in size this time of year, fall fashion events tend to be pretty heavy as well. In early October, we’ve got our very own Portland Fashion Week to look forward to (and believe us, we are), but before that there’s Vogue editor Anna Wintour’s ode to apparel, Fashion’s Night Out, in and around downtown Portland from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10.

After its smashing debut success in New York last year, Fashion’s Night Out has expanded to include dozens of cities around the world, each participating simultaneously in the fashion fueled fun. The intent is to stimulate local economies and celebrate the glory and fabulousity (did we just use a word made up by Kimora Lee Simmons?) of fashion.

Click the map for details and directions to all the downtown Portland shops participating in Fashion's Night Out.

While Portland’s awesome East End stores will be left out of the festivities, there are some great local and big-time department stores and boutiques participating in the evening’s events. Support the local indie shops first, of course, including Covet, Radish Underground, Mercantile, Mario’s and Pendleton; but you’ll definitely want to scope out places like Betsey Johnson, Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade and department stores Nordstrom and Macy’s for some serious designer discounts.

Visit DowntownPortland.org for a complete list of Fashion’s Night Out participating shops. All we can say is, the more, the merrier! Our goal will be to make as many appearances as possible to maximize the fashion fun, and to hit up the after-party in the lobby of The Nine’s hotel from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Until then, we’re cutting down on non-essential spending in anticipation of the tsunami of shopping that’s sure to occur two weeks from now.
