How about following up your busy First Thursday with a neat First Friday?
Nationale has relocated its boutique-slash-gallery to Lower East Burnside, opening yesterday in the same building as Sword + Fern. Also, Tolivar, a new retail shop for handmade clothing, art and jewelry, just opened in the building’s breezeway. These inventive shops, along with others on Burnside’s Lower East End, will host a First Friday art reception and celebration, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Friday, March 5.
Stop by the new Nationale space for an art installation of new works on paper by Midori Hirose, plus scope out the goods, including handmade ceramics, soaps, candles and more (above). Then scoot over to designer Emily Baker’s studio/shop Sword + Fern, where she’s been stocking up for spring. Find new jewelry (Tidepool earrings shown right), paintings, ceramics, textiles, bags, T-shirts, scarves, books, vintage items and tiny tabletop gardens from several new artists and designers.
Portland’s Lower East End is filling up fast with some of the city’s more original shops. In addition to the three mentioned, you’ll also find designer lingerie boutique Lille, modern concept store Stand Up Comedy, contemporary fashion boutique Frank James, gallery/shop/studio Grass Hut, plus Bombshell Vintage, Redux, Hattie’s Vintage and more.
