Oregon’s struggle to cope with record-breaking mass layoffs and a roughly 11 percent unemployment rate took a few more hard hits this past week, with announcements of layoffs at Lucy activewear (which will relocate its headquarters so San Leandro, Calif. this summer) and The Oregonian newspaper, which let go 37 employees yesterday – the first ever layoffs at the company.
It’s pretty much one big Debbie Downer style wah wahhhhhhh, right? But you can either take it lying down, or you can fight – and in order to fight, you must train.
Enter the “Hell on High Heels” business boot camp for women, a day-long career boosting workshop for women to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 at Hotel Lucia in downtown Portland.
The workshop, which also is a benefit for Dress for Success Oregon, is designed to inspire and instruct every kind of working girl, whether you’re at a career crossroads, run your own company, work in sales or are thinking about launching your own business. The workshop will provide tangible tools and resources for reinventing yourself, launching a business, building a marketing plan and more neat tips for making the most of 2010.
“I love helping women achieve success within their own business,” said Karen Ellingson, owner of event sponsor Lucy Palmer boutique. “This event is not just another ‘you can do it’ event, but it will share actual ideas and resources to make your project, idea or business successful.”
Sounds like a sweet plan of action! Enlist in the business boot camp today and it’ll set you back just $69 (which includes the workshop, lunch, champagne reception and goodie bag). Starting tomorrow, tickets go up to $89. Register online here, order tickets by phone (503-234-7386) or pick ‘em up at Lucy Palmer Boutique (1631 S.W. Bybee Blvd.).
