“Knee-Highs for Haiti” benefit roller skating party Saturday

Want to have a blasting helping Haiti? Portland sock stars Sock It To Me invite you to go bootin’ in your hottest tube socks, and skate on over to Oaks Park roller rink for a spontaneous “Knee-Highs for Haiti” roller skating benefit party, 10 p.m. to 12:30 am. this Saturday, Jan. 30.
Earlier this week, Sock It To Me announced they would donate 100 percent of this week’s Web sales to benefit earthquake relief in Haiti. Now, the company has decided to conclude the week of generous giving with an after-hours roller skating bash that will also help raise funds for Haitian relief efforts.
Hot roller derby gals from Portland’s Rose City Rollers will be on hand to help with the event – after all, cute knee-highs and roller skates go together like… PB&J? Mork&Mindy? Hall & Oates? You get the drift. The derby gals already are fans of Sock It To Me’s style-savvy knee-highs for their sassy stripes and hip prints that range from punky stars to classic argyle. Now, it’s your turn to see what the footwear fuss is about.
Guests who show up wearing Sock It To Me socks or who purchase a pair during the event will receive raffle tickets for fun giveaways throughout the night, including socks, roller skates, T-shirts, cupcakes, gift certificates, amusement park passes and more. Plus, there will be a guest DJ and treats donated from local bakeries.
With help from the Portland-based Mangrove Fund, 100 percent of ticket and sock sales during the event will help provide support to impoverished Haitian communities. Right on.
