Mardi Gras on Mississippi + Haiti benefit Saturday

Keep your tops on, people. This Saturday’s Mardi Gras on Mississippi event in North Portland is a decidedly more family affair than those raunchy Bourbon Street festivals down south. Plus, all proceeds from this Saturday’s Mardi Gras event will benefit relief work in Haiti.
Merchants on Mississippi will create a carnival-like atmosphere on Mississippi Avenue from noon to 5 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 13, offering up eye-mask decorating workshops, face painting, a spelling bee, a Mardi Gras parade down Mississippi from Fremont to Mason Streets, a puppet show and more more more wholesome fun. Proceeds will be donated to Portland-based Mercy Corps, to help fund earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
If you want to shop while the kidlets make masks, stop by Jet boutique early – the first 20 customers on Saturday can draw for an extra 10 to 30 percent off already-reduced sale items.
