Mountain Hardwear party + Win an Urban Travel Jacket!

Sure, Mountain Hardwear makes cutting-edge mountaineering and outdoor gear for extreme conditions. But in case you forgot, they also make pretty pieces for gals who simply like to bike and hike. Whichever you prefer (and who says you can’t prefer both!), stop by the downtown Portland store for a big anniversary party and spring collection launch, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 11.

To celebrate its second year in Portland, Mountain Hardwear (a subsidiary of local label Columbia Sportswear) will host an evening of discounts, raffle prizes, beverages and treats. Plus, the new spring collection has landed, and you’ll save $20 on purchases of $100 or more during the event. You can also check out the store’s resource center, which is designed to help customers find links to outdoor clubs and organizations, and learn of upcoming events (slide shows, travel speakers, athlete visits, etc.).

But let’s get back to shopping: For Spring 2010, Mountain Hardwear has created a line of active styles with urban flair that travel well because they can dress up or down. “The spring line includes stylish women’s apparel with technical fabrics and advanced construction methods, as well as eco-friendly fabrics (like organic cotton, recycled polyester, and hemp), and performance synthetic/cotton blends,” said Paige Boucher, Mountain Hardwear’s public relations director.

Our own favorites include the versatile La Strada skirt, the supercute Around Townie plaid shorts in a longer, flattering Bermuda style; the Loess tank top, which has a high neckline and built-in shelf bra; and the comfy, cotton knit Tonga dress and skirt, which you can pretty much wear straight from tennis to dinner. We also love the lightweight Urbanite Travel Jacket (right), which is fast becoming a Mountain Hardwear classic. In fact, we love it so much we’ve managed to sweet talk ‘em into a neat giveaway!

Win Mountain Hardwear’s Urbanite Travel Jacket! One lucky Neat Sheet Reader will win a FREE Mountain Hardwear Urbanite Travel Jacket in a pretty, pale shade of grey called Moon Dust (retail value $120). The springy hooded jacket is water repellent outside and lined with a soft, wicking fabric. Pus, it’s got a feminine cut and enough pockets you won’t need to carry a purse. To enter, just send an e-mail with the subject line “MOON DUST” to neatsheet@karenvitt.com or leave a comment on this post. We’ll pick a lucky random winner on Friday, April 30.

Mountain Hardwear made the best cargo skirt ever last year. You can literally stuff it in your pocket, go running or biking, shake it out, put it on over your workout clothes, & go for coffee.

Cute jackets with lots of pockets? Excellent!
