It’s about to be open season on the PDX fashion landscape, thanks to The Mercury’s 6th annual runway show entitled, well, “Open Season,” taking place at Bossanova Ballroom at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 7. Bust out your fiercest stilettos and your most nonchalant smirk (ultimate weapons in the fashion world), and prepare to come face-to-face with Portland’s brightest designers as they showcase their Fall 2010 Collections. Just remember, please don’t feed or touch the models. They startle easily.

Each spring, The Mercury’s managing editor Marjorie Skinner (M.O.D. fashion editor extraordinaire) manages to round up much of the best design talent Portland has to offer. How this woman manages to run a newspaper while simultaneously producing such a fantastic and locally loved fashion show is truly impressive, and this year’s lineup is as exciting as ever.

You’ll see the latest from Portland-area talents Liza RietzAdam ArnoldHeather TreadwayReifDawn SharpDust (above, from behind the scenes of its recent fall fashion shoot), Phlox owner Barbara Seipp’s Isaac Hers, ErhartAndy Lifschutz, Ruki by Melanie Parr and R.A.W. In this instance, overpopulation can certainly be considered a good thing. Our Portland fashion talent is breeding at an alarmingly awesome rate.

We’re also pretty keen on seeing the latest designs from former Project Runway 7 contestant Janeane Marie Ceccanti, who is more than thrilled to be back on her home turf and participating in Open Season. She’s come back down from the Moon, where she set last year’s Fall/Holiday 2009 line (right), and the new Janeane Marie Fall 2010 Collection is said to be based on the idea of modern cave living, with a simple color palette of the soft blues, black and creamy shades Ceccanti does so well.

Deemed Portland’s most inspiring spring fashion event since its inception, The Mercury’s Open Season 6th Annual Fashion Show promises a fun opportunity to get acquainted with many of Portland’s newest and most exciting local designers at once. Check back to The Neat Sheet next Thursday for a Neat PEOPLE exclusive with Marjorie Skinner, and we’ll see ya on the open range – er, runway – next Friday.
