Ah, January… how quickly we glide from all the holiday hoo-ha into so much bridal bliss. Among this month’s frothy frenzy of wedding events and publications geared toward spring and summer brides, our favorite is The Art of Weddings. One of Portland’s most elegant bridal showcases, this year’s fifth annual event takes place this Thursday, Jan. 7 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.at The Armory’s Gerding Theater.
More intimate and sophisticated than so many tacky convention center bridal trade shows, The Art of Weddings puts a focus on small, hand-selected local businesses that produce the highest quality bridal fashion, floral and cake designs, catering, photography and more. “I want people to be comfortable and have fun, but also walk away with new, creative ideas for how they can make their wedding as special as they want it to be,” said event founder Alexis Achten, of Jasmine Photography.
The 2010 event is designed so newly engaged couples can mix and mingle in a party setting, enjoying complimentary cocktails and hor’dourves while viewing bridal designs, sampling food and desserts and browsing photography, invitations and such.
This year’s lineup includes a bridal fashion show from some exquisite Portland designers, including Sarah Seven (top), Amai Unmei (right), Duchess Clothier menswear and local bridal shop Magnifique Boutique. Plus, view floral desigss from Fleur Bliss; invitations from 1st Comes Love; and food, drinks and desserts from The Art of Catering, Sake One, ak Cake Design, La Jaconde and tons more sweet stuff you can read about when you register online.
