Anka Gallery’s new exhibit is tailor made for those of us who have always deemed fashion an art. “The Interior’s New Clothes,” a showing of wearable art from local designers, opens with a reception from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. this Thursday, April 1.

Curated by Anka Gallery’s Anna Solcaniova King and Jason Ball of Jason Ball Interiors, the exhibit will showcase some of Portland’s most creative designers – from two different design worlds. Fashion designs (couture dresses, sculptural hats and jewelry) will be incorporated into an interior design setting that will display pieces from local furniture showrooms, glass and lighting designers.

The lineup of local design talent presenting “artwear” for this exhibit is truly outstanding, and full of names you’ll recognize from pages of The Neat Sheet.

View couture hats from Dayna Pinkham of Pinkham Millinery; clothing from indie Portland designer Emily Ryan (above); pieceworked fabric collages by Jude Cornwell of Judee Moonbeam Studio; new designs from Staci Stevens of Champagne Lace; headwear from Jeanne Bjorn; sculptural jewelry from Bonnie Meltzer; clothing from Julia GaRey; leather jewelry from Jennifer Hackett; fiber apparel from Kate Troyer; and handmade paper works from Helen Hiebert.

You can view the exhibit at Anka Gallery through Friday, April 30, but the First Thursday opening party is where it’s at. What local design lover would miss the opportunity to view so much diverse Portland talent in one show?! None, that’s who. See you there!
