There’s been much rightly deserved happy Twittering lately about Betsy & Iya Jewelry, an array of eclectic collections designed by Portland’s uber-creative Betsy Cross. Now you can meet the pretty powerhouse behind the dramatic jewelry at Cross’ semi-impromptu holiday shopping party and sale, noon to 6 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 19.

Just days ago, Cross decided it would be fun before her holiday break to invite shoppers to the studio for wine, cider, cheese and huge discounts on her jewelry, plus a few styles from her friend Sue Lieu of Sulu-Design. All Betsy & Iya jewelry will be marked down by 20 to 70 percent (including current collections), and pieces in her vintage color line will be priced as low as $15 per item (which amounts to about 50 percent off).

betsyand iya-portland-necklaceCross, who has a theater background and a highly developed sense of humor, also promises shoppers some nice mood lighting. ”Let’s hang out in my tiny studio and make a toast to the warm fuzzy season,” she said. “And if you want some extremely affordable, hot jewelry, that’s cool too.”

To be specific, Cross’ hot, affordable jewelry includes a range of theatrical, intricate and cheeky styles, including pieces created from mixed-metals, antiqued objects and vintage Art Deco Plastics. Our neat picks include her Ashlyn’s Brilliance copper and brass bar necklace (top); the new, oversized Deco Eagle Shield necklace; Copper Diamond Drip Earrings of vintage copper filigree and chains; and her popular I Heart Portland necklace (above).

As one of the designer’s Facebook fans commented recently, ”I think we’d all like necklaces that say ‘I ? Betsy.’”
