Portland fashion designer Erica Lurie, owner of Alberta’s Garnish boutique, is wasting no time getting a jump on her 2010 New Year’s resolution: to better listen to her customers and give them what they need. And apparently what they need is more casual everyday wear and less bridal finery. In light of that, Garnish has discontinued its bridal line and will mark down all remaining wedding dresses by 50 percent now through Sunday, Jan. 17.

“It was a difficult decision, but we are very excited about this transition as it will free up a lot more time and space to concentrate on the growing Garnish line in the shop as well as online,” Lurie said. “We will still have plenty of pieces you can dress up or down and dressier items to wear to a special event, but since most of us need flattering, unique every day pieces we will have plenty to choose from.”

Lurie says they have six styles left in white and cream, including a few samples that were worn in fashion shows, which are priced between $200 and $300. You’ll also find other Garnish dresses, skirts and tops Lurie says would work well as bridesmaid dresses, plus unique jewelry and accessories.

Want to win a $500 Garnish shopping spree? Now through Jan. 31, Lurie is holding a contest to come up with the perfect tagline for her shop. For a chance to win, send an email to info@garnishapparel.com and tell them in a few words what you think is the true essence of Garnish. The winner will be announced in February.
