Retro style + prices at Xtabay Vintage Sidewalk Sale
By Erin Flesch, NEAT contributor
Whether we are getting our weekly fix of “Mad Men” or swooning over Grace Kelly’s flawless style in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” (a summer movie staple, by the way), we can’t help but be in awe of the beauty and care that went into clothing in the 1940s-1960s. Utterly gorgeous is the only way to describe it, and we feel slightly ashamed every time we leave the house in our grubby tank and cutoffs.
If you, like us, have been noticing that your closet is leaning heavy on T-shirts and light on fab cocktail dresses, you’ll want to go to step into Portland’s version of Grace Kelly’s closet at the Xtabay Vintage Street Fair Sidewalk Sale from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. this Saturday, July 24.
We have it on good authority that full circle skirts are going to be huge this fall, and this is the perfect opportunity to stock up on sophisticated vintage attire at even less than the 1950s prices. Owner Liz Gross is clearing out her basement full of Betty Draper duds, shoes, furniture and other cool finds for the sale. There will be racks outside priced between $1 and $5, and you’ll save 20 percent on all clothes inside the shop, too.
We could all use a little more glamor in our lives (and wardrobes) and Xtabay is here to supply us. Perhaps we will have that martini with lunch… ya know, for the glamour.
