Portland designer Jennifer Thomas, who has been peddling her Northwest-flavored fashions at Dragonlily and other Portland boutiques for years, has opened a sleek shop on Mississippi Avenue to showcase her label, “Jet.” Stop by the Grand Opening event from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 to meet Thomas, view a fashion walk and party in first class style.

jet72Thomas says her goal with the shop is “to create a chic wonderland, where everything is designed and constructed on site, produced in Portland and just as sustainable as we can think to get.”

Case in point, look for Thomas’ inventive flamenco-meets-sweatshirt dresses, with a form-fitting shape that explodes into frothy ruffles at the bottom; and more everyday urban pieces, like hoodie rompers and long-sleeve shirts with decorative asymmetrical stitching. Also shop for shoes, handbags, hats and jewelry from Cydwoq, Matt+Nat, Appepaza and more.

p.s., Thomas named one of her soft, sustainable hoodies the “Wookie Hoodie.” A hoodie that’s as soft and squeezable as Chewbacca?? What’s not to love?

Grand Opening Party: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday Oct. 9
Jet, 3753 N. Mississippi Ave.; 503-282-3753

UPDATE FOR DEC. 1, 2009: Jet will host its first holiday party from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4. The Jet gals are bringing in live music, new designs, jewelry from Stone Posey and a chocolatier, Sarah Hart of Alma Chocolate.
