modo-vince-sweaterWe hate the word “recessionista,” but we love shopping like one. Bringing home high fashion for just a few of your precious funemployment dollars feels good, and Modo boutique just received new fall and winter shipments that will make you feel very good, indeed.

Friends Allison Fordham and Myla Crowell first opened Modo as an eBay store in 2006 when they decided their love for clothes outweighed their love for computers. The bricks-and-mortar Modo boutique in Southeast Portland just opened last spring, but the gals already have years worth of awesome inventory – plus hot new finds, natch.

modoboutiqueRecent arrivals include a new Vince sweater dress (above) for $80, with the $295 tag still attached; a Diane von Furstenberg Yana dress; an Inhabit cotton/cashmere sweater; plus tops, skirts, boots and scarves from posh organic label Stewart and Brown, Madchen (an Anthropologie brand), Corso Como and many others.

The shop is able to offer such amazing deals because of its huge inventory, brought in by a large network of local and national consignors – all with a great eye for what women want. Modo’s Mary Sue Fordham says everyone at the shop is continually inspired by the idea of rediscovering, recycling and reclaiming fashion, and they think of Modo as one big, international closet.

Not a bad way to ease the shopping withdrawl symptoms that go hand in hand with a recesssion, right?
