Neat street style: Military + menswear on N.W. 23rd Ave.

We love meeting a gal with the keen fashion insticts to mix military touches with menswear, then top it all off with cherry red lipstick and stroll down Northwest 23rd Avenue like she invented Saturday afternoon.

Meet Madison High School senior Tiffany Perry, who says fellow students think her style is “weird” because she’s often able to spot trends before anyone else.

We think she looked effortlessly cool, shopping around Nob Hill in black leggings, an oversized white button-down shirt and military inspired vest (both from Forever 21), and an attention grabbing pair of two-tone oxford style flats from Urban Outfitters. She also lugged a great big faux leather bag (also from Urban Outfitters) in a steely shade of urban grey – good for toting style magazines and cosmetics from M.A.C. and Lancome, just a few of her favorite things.

Perry, who says she loves studying couture fashion, pays close attention to details when getting dressed. She always wears lipstick – today it was a bright red from NARS – and she thinks about her accessories. This day, she softened her militant menswear look with a long, vintage rosary style cross necklace she snapped up at Magpie in downtown Portland. And often she’ll switch up her Vogue eyeglasses to complement her attire.

“I loved Alexander McQueen, and I like trends, but I also try not to follow too much,” Perry said. “I also like things that are more androgynous and harder to put into everyday wear. My style is pretty free spirited. What I feel is what I wear.”
