Portland designer ElizaBeth Rohloff is best known for creating artful, handmade clothing and hats that have what she calls an “archival” quality. In other words, her beautiful things are built to last, and we gotta love that. Even more so, we gotta have that.
“There is a movement afoot called Archival Clothing,” Rohloff said. “I prefer to think of my work that way. A creation that is made the ‘old way’ – with care, in short runs, with quality materials and in this country.” You said it, sistah.
For Spring 2010, Rohloff has introduced a particularly lovely collection of handmade hats and garments she says were inspired by history. ”History is what creates vintage,” she said. “I have been making decidedly feminine hats for a while, but the look is now coming into vogue with the Flora and Audrey hats’ femininity.”
One of our favorites from Rohloff’s spring collection is the Audrey hat (above and right), a playful, vintage-inspired style with a full sweeping brim that can take on different personalities depending on the materials used and the embellishments added. For example, Rohloff can craft her Audrey hats from hemp, silk, lightweight wool, linen or whathaveyou, and then decorate the finished hats with ribbons, buttons, feathers or whatever custom details her customers might choose.
Win your own custom Audrey Hat from designer ElizaBeth Rohloff! Just as the weather warms and we begin seeking some pretty spring shade, one lucky Neat Sheet reader will win her very own custom made ElizaBeth Rohloff Audrey Hat (retail value $90). Rohlofff will craft your Audrey hat from hemp, as seen above, and then she’ll work with the winner to custom style the hat in your size and choice of colors, flowers, ribbons or whatever you like. To enter, just send an e-mail with the subject line “AUDREY HAT” to neatsheet@karenvitt.com or leave a comment on this post. We’ll pick a lucky random winner on Thursday, June 3.

Very exciting! I LOVE hats and have several I proudly sport from local designers. This is one I do not have in my collection yet!
A very chic hat, and a production philosophy I can really get behind!
Yes, oh, how darling is this “Audrey Hat” and how sweet it will look with a fitted Suzabelle spring dress. Just plain sweet!!!

And, it’s hemp!! How cool is that?
That is absolutely adorable!! Love it!
love this 20’s flapper look! it’s the era i wish i had lived in
LOVE her hats!
Hats never go out of style. When I was seventeen, 30 hats adorned my bedroom walls. Even though I lived in Eugene, where no one dresses, I wore my hats for years . . . I eventually gave them away so now it’s time to revive my interest and restock my collection!
I am feeling a little inspired to win this from the Kentucky Derby last weekend!
Hats rock, period. The floppier the better!
