Make a day trip out of adopting a cat

All these cool cats need homes!
Last week I tagged along with my boyfriend on a story assignment to a cat safe house in Madras, Ore. Jacques is the pet columnist for The Oregonian, and he was interviewing a woman who has opened her home to more than 40 homeless cats. Because the county shelter there only accepts dogs, Sandra Ballard runs the Madras Rescue Group out of her home and helps about 600 cats each year.
I went along for the ride just to take in the gorgeous scenery (Madras is situated in high-desert country north of Bend). But upon arriving I was moved to find so many sweet cats in need of a home. They followed me around the yard, seeking affection by swarming me, climbing my legs and shoving their purry faces in my camera.
Sandra and her daughter, Julie, are doing a great job caring for so many kitties, but they have their hands full. If you’re looking to adopt, why not make a road trip out of it and head to Madras? All these cute beasties are available by calling Sandra at 541-475-3314 or e-mail sandrak1@crestviewcable.com.
