xtabay-vintage-shopping-portland-fashionIf you’re seeing red around Portland today, it’s part of the American Heart Association’s national Go Red campaign, which works to educate the masses about women’s heart health. Friday, Feb. 5 is National Wear Red Day, when millions of Americans wear red to show support for women and the fight against heart disease.

To help with the Go Red For Women movement – and because almost everyone looks red hot in crimson – we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite local red dresses to get your heart racing (in a good way).

We found this flirty red vintage cocktail dress (left) at Xtabay Vintage on Clinton Street in Southeast Portland, nestled among pretty things from every era. It’s not easy to find a mint condition vintage cocktail dress, much less in such a striking color and flattering cut. And it’s just begging to be accessorized with silvery pumps and a martini, right?

anne-bocci-boutique-portland-amai-unmeiWe also love local designer Amai Unmei’s Art Deco cranberry silk charmeuse dress (right), which we found at Anne Bocci boutique in Multnomah Village. It’s shimmery and sexy, with a gathered deep-V neckline and bias cut. We also found a beautiful, deep red quilted skirt and matching topcoat from local label WeMa Designs if you’re looking for something slightly more conservative that’s still dramatic for evening.

And lastly but not leastly, we found this crimson Lanna Dress by Effie’s Heart (below) at SaySay Boutique in downtown Portland. It’s cut from cotton-spandex, so it’s comfortable, but still super sexy with thin spaghetti straps up top and extreme ruching on the skirt. Imagine this dressed down, too, layered with a sweater and tall boots.

So now you need a place to wear your red hot dress? Don’t forget the Heart Ball is coming up on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Governor Hotel.

For a chance to win tickets, enter the AHA’s Searching for Cinderella contest. Write in with your heart or stroke survivor stories (they can be about you or someone you know), and they’ll choose a random winner from the entries to receive two tickets to the Heart Ball, hair & make-up from Robert’s of Portland, a custom designed gown from Cindy Taylor of Bon’Lou Couture, jewels loaned from Tiffany & Co, a photo shoot, a hotel stay and pretty much the fairy-tale evening of your dreams.
