Two PDX designers on Project Runway 7

gravitydress-janeanemarie-projectrunwayExciting news for Portland’s fashion community! Today we learned that two (you heard us, TWO!) Portland-area designers have been selected to compete on Lifetime Television’s Project Runway Season 7, coming in January 2010. Congrats to Janeane Marie Ceccanti, 28, of Portland, and Seth Aaron Henderson, 38, of Vancouver, Wash.

Ceccanti, who you can meet and greet at her Janeane Marie trunk show and sample sale this Saturday at downtown Portland’s Flurry pop-up shop, says she can’t tell us too much – the reality show producers are keeping things tight-lipped – but she can say she’s looking forward to the experience. “I’m excited about the exposure that Project Runway will offer, which is the biggest thing for me because getting your name out there otherwise can be expensive.”

sethaaronhenderson-pdxneatsheetCeccanti said she did not meet our other competing local frock star, Seth Aaron Henderson, before filming. We’re trying to reach Henderson for comment as we type, but in the meantime you can check out Seth Aaron Designs at Anne Bocci Boutique.

Both of these talented designers originally hail from California, but now live and work in the Portland area. Janeane Marie is a relative newcomer to Portland’s fashion scene, whereas Seth Aaron Designs have been around for years, so it will be interesting (read: SO. MUCH. FUN.) to see how the competition plays out on TV.

Janeane Marie designs (like her Gravity dress above) tend to feel more modern and slightly complicated (that’s a good thing), while Seth Aaron Designs (right) rely on classic, old-school glamour and expert craftsmanship (also a good thing).

The show starts Jan. 14, 2010, and we can’t wait to see if another PDX talent will follow in the winning fashion footsteps of Portland’s Leanne Marshall. Marshall won Project Runway in Season 5, and showed her collection at Bryant Park Fashion Week in New York – a designer dream come true we wish for both Ceccanti and Henderson.

Portland has so much design talent it’s almost not even fair, right? Best of luck to you both!

I’m so happy for Portland’s own Marie and Seth! Seth Aaron has his gorgeous designs in my teeny, tiny boutique in SW Portland’s Multnomah Village. Seth has a heart of gold and his retro designs rock. His hand-sewn Elvis and Marilyn dress is one of my favorites. Yay Portland designers! We are all behind you! xoxo anne
