Portland may have to wait for H&M (you can read about that whole scenario here), but we can get our hands on the next best thing starting tomorrow. Rodarte, a coveted, high fashion line out of Los Angeles, Calif., will introduce an affordable designer collection at Target stores nationwide (including the Washington Square location in Tigard) starting this Sunday, Dec. 20.

Target has partnered with celebrated Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy to create a limited-edition collection of apparel, belts and legwear for Target’s GO International program, which provides affordable fashion for everyday people by world-renowned designers – and it doesn’t get any more world-renowned than Rodarte.

rodarte-portland-targetUpon introducing Rodarte in 2005, the Mulleavys had instant runaway runway success. Major magazines put them on the covers, and big department stores snatched up their designs as fast as they could. Rodarte has continued to receive high praise, industry recognition and a celebrity following that includes everyone from Reese Witherspoon to Michelle Obama. Most recently they won the prestigious CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award for 2009.

“We are excited to share their extraordinary talent with our guests, providing off-the-runway fashion at unbeatable prices,” said Trish Adams, senior vice president for Target. We’re excited, too, because Rodarte’s Target collection is really fun – and you can mix and match most of the playful pieces, priced $9.99 to $79.99.

Find lots of Gothy black lace, including tights, bra tops, camisoles and skirts; sheer, layered dresses, like the pale blue Swiss Dot Lace Dress (right, $39.99); lace cardigans in a cool, offbeat colors (top, right); leopard-print bow belts; swimwear; furry jackets; and one crazy cool black sequined dress decorated with a skeletal rib cage (above left, $49.99).

If the affordable Rodarte fashion frenzy is anything like we expect, shop early – this neat stuff will go fast.

I HATED seeing all this stuff on the model. I was totally turned off to the entire collection because her intense features were distracting when trying to visualize myself wearing it. But really liked the collection on the promotional ads for Target itself at the stores, with regular commercial models I assume. Picked up THREE things.
